Etsy Sunday - Taking it Waaaay Back…

Posted by Sarah on Oct 12, 2008

I’m a nerd. Love to sew, watch Futurama like it’s Shakespeare, go to things that have “Renaissance” and “Festival” in the same line. Big shocker, right? I am going out in all my nerdy-ness today (no I’m not dressing up! Unless…) and I wanted to take you with me. Behold loyal crafters! Etsy Sunday: the Renaissance edition!

If you are heading out to the festival, you might want a costume - and since the festival runs from October 12 to after Thanksgiving, you have plenty of time. It’s almost Halloween people - you better have something to wear, why not try it out at Ren Fest? Here are some suggestions from Etsy:

Faerie: For this you need a tutu and some pointy ears. Oh! And probably some wings... You can also get an total costume from Etsy, with everything you need! Check out the Woodland Faerie, Poppy Faerie and Silver Faerie for starters.

Fair Maiden: Grab a maiden-ey dress and get going!

Someone in a Cloak: It usually happens. Someone at Ren Fest is in a cloak. And jeans and Chucks. Why? Because cloaks are a super quick way to say “I’m dressing up to appease my buddies, but not a total dork with a real costume. Get a cloak here!

Etsy Sunday - Roadside Art

Posted by Sarah on Sep 28, 2008

Roadside Art is one of my favorite Etsy sellers!

Not only are the illustrations both cute and quirky, but the style in which they are done seems to be 3-D. And they’re usually pretty small, which means you can get a ton of art in a small space on your wall (great for us urban dwellers with small homes). Happy shopping!

Hello Daytime Peeps!

Maybe you’re a mom, maybe you work at night - maybe you are a reverse crafting vampire and can only be creative in the wee hours of day. No matter what your reason, you want a sewing class just for you and we want to hook you up! Intro to Sewing is now being offered during the day (third class down) in addition to our evening and weekend classes. See you in the daylight!

Etsy Sunday - Take a Hike Ike Edition

Posted by Sarah on Sep 21, 2008

Shop local. Buy handmade. These are the battle cries of a generation fed up with cheap, mass produced stuff. But how to put them both together and help our powerless* compatriots? Hmmm… OH! I know! After a few clickity clicks on Etsy’s shop local feature, I was able to find some of Houston’s best and brightest crafters!

Hypernoodle: Love the name, love the bags!

DragonflyLane: Need a pair of bird earrings? How about some awesome skulls? This local seller has you covered!

Shopgirl715: Have an etsy shop, blog or website that needs some design help? Look no further than this local graphics maven.

Dadadreams: If your internet is down, why not send some low tech greetings to your family in Ohio to let them know you and Fido are ok? One of dadadreams’ collages to mail might do the trick…

Want more? Local sellers are all over Etsy! Drop some change and support local art!

*Powerless, get it? Like no power because of Ike! You see, I was making a reference to the hurric… what? You got it. It’s not funny though? Ok fine.  raspberry
