Hello, Crafty Peeps!
Why, hello there! If you’re reading this, then you know of the amazing awesomeness that is Sew Crafty, and you may or may not have personally run into the amazing awesomeness that is Sarah, chief craftess. (Though it does not say this on her business card, it definitely should. Vote?)
I have been lucky enough to experience the awesomeness explosion of Sarah, Sew Crafty and the amazing people who come through the doors every day. A knit Bender, for Pete’s sake? You people rock.
Since Sarah has given me the - dare I say it? - awesome opportunity to post in her absence (a wise decision? Hmmmmmm...time shall tell.) I thought I would just stop in and say hello. Sooo…
Hi there!
I’m Erin, and I normally blog here, because I am (almost disgustingly) lucky enough to work here. I’m (sort of) new to crafting - like Sarah, I crafted a lot as a kid, though I didn’t call it that. And though most of my childhood projects have faded with time, I can still claim an absolutely fabulous (and very tasteful) cross-stitch of three sheep in a bathtub, under the heading “baaaaathroom in use” (get it?). Which my mother still proudly displays.
In the bathroom.
No one keeps you humble like Mom, right? But, since Sew Crafty opened back in May, I’ve added to the bathroom collection - making a tote bag, some sweet Gocco dinosaur stationery and a craft apron - along with some lovely tissue paper flowers at the grand opening a few weeks ago. (Did you stop by? What did you think? I thought it was fabulous, of course - but I think we’ve established that I am a bit biased.) I’ve been traveling for work recently, so I haven’t made it over as often as I would like - but I am definitely looking forward to getting to know all of you here for the next few weeks (or at least until Sarah reads this, gasps, and deletes my admin account.
)
Happy Crafting!
Cooking as Craft!
Yes - it counts! Cooking is crafty in essence… especially when it’s creative! Maybe your favorite grilled cheese doesn’t fall into this category, but some of these are definitely craftastic!
Ch Ch Ch Changes!!
Things - they are a changing!
We are working on our schedule for June, July and August, and boy - is it exciting! There will be many, many more cool classes to take, new Crafty Cocktails projects and we even have a new mascot - Willy the cactus! Willy was a gift from a very talented young sewist, Sofia, who visited this week with her mom Renee and dog, Mr. Pickles the Mayor.
Another big change, based on the results of our survey (thank you crafty peeps!) our hours are going to change too! We will post an update here and send out an email to let you guys know when you can visit! Again, thank you all for participating and letting us know how we can be the best little craft place west of the Mississippi!
Tote Swap - Are You In?
It’s fun, it’s free and it’s here - time for the Sew Crafty Tote Swap!
Join us for super fun tote swap - an event where you make or decorate a pre-made tote for another crafter while they make/decorate one for you!
Here’s how you can be a part of our tote-ally awesome swap (yes I know it’s ridiculous that I just said tote-ally):
1) Check your calendar! The craft swap party will be on June 20th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (wine and snacks - woot!).
2) Send an email to with your name, your favorite/least favorite color and anything of note (examples: I have long arms and need long straps, I hate cotton, please make something with a dinosaur on it because I love them, etc.).
3) Wait for your swap partner email - we will send them out after the swap closes on May 23!
4) Come to the party, get/give your goods and have a glass of wine!
Swapping is so fun - it’s easy, you get to make something and then you get something handmade for you! Join us!
How’s it going!

We’re your new neighbor. Not exactly next door or right around the corner, but close. Super close. Close enough for you to stop by and get your craft on with us for a while.
If you’re like us, making things with your hands sounds cool. Not trendy club, look-how-cool-I-am cool - cool in the way you feel when you leave a yoga class. Accomplished and relaxed. Crafty even!
Sew Crafty is Houston’s first and only craft studio and sewing lounge. It’s a place to take classes in sewing, knitting and DIY - we even have craft classes for kids and parents that can help families combat “There’s Nothing to Do!” syndrome. Best of all, Sew Crafty is place to enjoy the company of other just like you!
So look around our website and sign up for a class or just stop by to say “Hello!” We’d love to meet you!
Stay crafty and stop by and see us sometime!
