The Sew Crafty Blog

Happy New Year!

Posted by Sarah on Jan 01, 2010

It’s a new year - a new reason to kick bad habits, to learn new things and to focus on new challenges! I don’t know about you, but I have picked up some bad crafting and blogging habits this year that I want to improve - here are a few of my resolutions:
1. Blog twice a week! We’re starting something new this year - Tip Tuesdays (where you can get some cool crafting tips with a tutorial!) and I can’t wait to get the first one ready for you guys!
2. Make a new project each week - notice I didn’t say “start.” If you’re like me at all, starting things is easy, but finishing projects is hard!
3. Keep my craft room clean - do you have dust bunnies and craft creep taking over your home too? Let’s keep it under control this year!
4. Pick projects that challenge me - I have make like 10 Birdie Slings this year, but the Liverpool Tunic scares me! Time to cut that baby and start stitching!
5. Craft with friends - to get this resolution rolling, we will starting offering potluck meetups at Sew Crafty each month! Stay tuned for dates…

What are some of your crafty resolutions? Let everybody know in the comments! Making them public might be just what you need to stay on track…

I will let *you* inspire me! I will be doing good to succeed in one craft per month (but with 3 kids…)!

3 kids!! I would be lucky to get a craft every six months done - you go wonder mom!

This is too weird. I have 2 of the same resolutions(blog and project a week!!!). Plus mastering the skill of zippers and button holes!

Great resolutions!  I share many of them… I have one or two projects I need to finish every week until baby arrives.  Then who knows!
Looking forward to the potluck meetups!

my main resolution is to bust out my sewing machine from its box, set it up, AND use it! It’s going on year 5 that it is sitting in its box…not very crafty of me.
BTW, craft potlucks sound awesome! I can’t wait :D

By Veronica on Jan 04, 2010

@Veronica - hahaha! I hear that on the having the sewing machine in the box so long, it’s now vintage! I did that with the serger and finally learned how to use it last year - thank goodness!

@Amanda - I can’t wait to see all your cool baby projects!

@Jessica - YES! We will have to be each other’s support group for these resolutions! The project one seems to be the hard one - I keep starting and getting distracted, and it’s only week one!

I learned a new craft that’s been around for ages, “Indian Beadwork” and am determined to make a bracelet for each of the female members of my family.

One of my goals this year is to learn how to spin yarn and possibly experiment with hand dyeing.

By Barking Dog on Jan 08, 2010

1. Don’t add to my yarn stash unless I’m buying special yarn on vacation.
2. Take another beginning sewing class.
3. Learn how to do granny squares.
4. Blog once a week.

I’m going to use the crafty supplies that I already have AND this is the year I complete my first quilt.

Happy Crafting!

PS Craft Potluck sounds awesome! I would be there in a heartbeat.

My crafty resolution is to finally finish crocheting an afghan I have been working on for over 3 years (yikes!).  Also, I want to sew at least one project a month at home…

I also agree—a Craft Potluck sounds like a blast!!  Keep up the great work…I LOVE Sew Crafty!

By Amy on Jan 10, 2010

@EconGrrl - yes! Good one! I think we all have so many supplies that are tucked away and forgotten about - you have inspired me to clean out my craft closet! A supply swap this spring is definitely in order!

@Amy - afgan?!?! That’s awesome! I can’t wait to see the finished product!

@Treena - I have never seen Indian Beadwork in real life, but it sounds amazing!

@Lisa - good list! I think the not adding to the stash is an important one - I’m with you on that!

@Barking Dog - very cool! Can’t wait to see your finished work!
